It’s easy to imagine Heart’s Nancy Wilson rocking a life in this 凯发k8地址home — because she did. Nestled on a on the banks of  Hidden Hills Pond in Kirkland is this enchanting — and yes, funky — one-of-kind abode: The Original Funky House, also known as The Heart House. You could be the next to call it 凯发k8地址home, for $1.2 million.

(Salvaged) layers of history

The 凯发k8地址home is an original 1970s creation from architect George Reynoldson. Reynoldson and his company, Space Time 凯发k8地址homes, designed many unique 凯发k8地址homes in the Seattle area, including several in Kirkland’s Highlands neighborhood.

Reynoldson was ahead of his time,  an architect with a passion for green building, and 11410 N.E. 103rd St., with its classic Pacific Northwest design, was built from salvaged materials. According to listing agent Darnell Samuelson, this 凯发k8地址home “is rumored to be the only 凯发k8地址home by Reynoldson in its mostly original state.”

Among the salvaged pieces are exposed beams, posts and wood floors crafted out of demolished warehouses. In the kitchen, a refurbished stovepipe serves as a fixture for track lighting. There’s also a ship’s ladder now serving as a bookshelf, iron grating acting as a room screen, and a cornice from a Capitol Hill building. A reclaimed office door now invites you into an upstairs office.

Everywhere are picture windows, skylights, and colored glass, flooding the 凯发k8地址home's open flowing spaces — as well as its quirky nooks and crannies — with natural light.

Reynoldson named all of his houses; this 凯发k8地址home, for obvious reasons, he christened “The Original Funky House."

The Heart of Funky House

The current owners of The Funky House purchased the 凯发k8地址home in 1984 from Nancy Wilson, founding member of the band Heart. Neighbors began referring to Funky House as “The Heart House” after Wilson took possession. A heart above the front door (seen in gallery above) pays homage to the former owner.

All in all, the three bedroom, one and ¾ bathroom 凯发k8地址home offers 2,490 square feet. There’s a large living room with a gas fireplace, view decks, a daylight basement and a two-car garage. A treehouse-like stairwell connects the 凯发k8地址home's levels, and leads to a master suite overlooking foliage and water.

The property, .30 acres, features a Certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat backing up onto the shore of a large pond. The location means an easy stroll to nearby parks, amenities, and the waterfront.
