Just after King County applied to Phase 2 of Washington's Safe Start reopening plan, which will allow restaurants to increase indoor and outdoor capacity to 50%, the popular Fremont Brewing shut its doors indefinitely because an employee tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.
The employee's last shift was on June 9 at the Urban Beer Garden, and they were asymptomatic when reporting for the shift. When screened, they presented an "acceptable temperature" and wore personal protective equipment including a mask and gloves throughout their shift.
Upon receiving notice from the employee, the brewery immediately closed both the beer garden and production facility for sanitation.
“We are taking immediate action and closing both the Urban Beer Garden and our production facility to allow for immediate testing of all Fremont Brewing employees and for a full sanitation of all Fremont Brewing facilities,” the brewery wrote in a statement posted to their social media.

The Urban Beer Garden in the Fremont neighborhood reopened on June 6 for the first time since the COVID-19 shutdown as part of Phase 1.5.
The brewery has not provided a date for reopening, but stated that it will require all employees to test negative before returning to work. It is also seeking counsel from medical professionals to ensure employee and customer safety.
"We’ll re-open when it is deemed completely safe and prudent to do so," wrote the brewery.
